Proposed North American Grade Equivalences
Cover Sheet
Ms H Butcher, Clerk to the Committee
The School of Veterinary Medicine has highlighted the need for the University’s stated grade equivalences for North American grades to be updated as the existing schedule held in the Registry pre-dates the Code of Assessment.
Proposed grade equivalences are therefore presented in the attached schedule, along with details of the grade equivalences published by the University of Edinburgh which are provided for information only.
The demand from BVMS students relates to the North American students studying at Glasgow who need to provide further information on their performance (transcript grades) to employers and other universities back home following graduation. The proposed schedule will also be available for converting the assessment performance of students studying in North America in terms of 16.79 of the Code of Assessment which requires that grades achieved at the overseas institution must be converted into the grades set out in the Code of Assessment. In proposing a standard schedule of equivalence, it is recognised that in some cases, the grading schemes of specific North American institutions may require some modification to be made to the proposed equivalences.
ASC is invited to consider for approval the proposed table of equivalences between Glasgow assessment grades and North American grades.
ASC members are also encouraged to consult with Schools in order to identify any current North American partner institutions which may not consider the proposed equivalences appropriate.
Following approval the schedule will be published online, available on both the Registry and Senate Office websites. It will be available for immediate use to North American students studying at Glasgow. The schedule will be available for the conversion process for grades achieved by students taking assessments in North America from session 2011-12 onwards but will not be applied retrospectively to grades achieved and converted in previous sessions.
